Final Fantasy XVI is exclusive to PS5 for six months, but don’t expect a PC port that soon

Fighting Eikons will have to wait.

Previews for Final Fantasy XVI have gone live, and with this came a bunch of interviews with the developers. Many of the interviews were with different members of the game development team. One of these developers is producer for the game Naoki Yoshida, also known as Yoshi-P. In an interview on the PlayStation Blog, he stated that the Final Fantasy XVI PC port won’t be coming for a while after the game releases on PS5.

The interview, which goes into many different aspects of the game in great detail, states that we shouldn’t expect Final Fantasy XVI to come to PC relatively soon after its launch on PS5. “First of all, it is true that Final Fantasy XVI is a six-month limited time exclusive on the PS5 Platform.” Yoshida stated, via Google Translate. “However, it is a completely different story that the PC port will be released in half a year. I will make it clear, but the PC version will not come out in half a year.”

Final Fantasy XVI PC port shouldn’t be expected right away

There is a good reason behind this though, which is the optimization of the Final Fantasy XVI PC port. Yoshida said this on the matter: “…even if we start optimizing the PC version after the PS5 version comes out, we won’t be able to optimize it in half a year, so it won’t come out in a short span of half a year.” This is completely reasonable. With the recent issues with some of the PC ports in the AAA games space, we can honestly appreciate that they’re going to take the time to polish the PC port to make sure it’s perfect.

Yoshida did also state that he wants to release a PC port, meaning this will hopefully happen, eventually.

Final Fantasy XVI launches on June 22 for the PlayStation 5. The PC port will likely come down the line when it’s all polished to perfection.
