How to get the Shotgun in Sons of the Forest

To get the Shotgun in Sons of the Forest, you’ll need to acquire the Shovel first. To be clear, this particular tool can’t be obtained until you’ve picked up a few others, but it’s integral if you want to access more secret areas on the island. In any case, you can refer to our Shovel location guide for more info.

Once you do have it, you’ll need to head to one of the purple markers on your map. There are three by default and they offer nifty rewards:

  • Flashlight – The one that’s closest to the mountains.
  • Pistol – The one in the middle of the sea.
  • Shotgun – The third and final one, which is along the opposite edge.

Upon arriving at the location, you’ll hear the beeping noise. You’ll also notice a marked grave. Equip the Shovel and start digging to unearth a coffin. Inside, there’s a corpse that’s holding the firearm. You can also pick up the GPS Tracker for your collection.

And that’s it, you now have the Sons of the Forest Shotgun. Make good use of it as it can save your life when you’re fighting mutants in close quarters. It’s got two firing modes as well, which you can switch to by aiming at the ground and pressing the “R” key. Using buckshot will fire pellets in a wide spread, whereas using slugs will shoot a single high-impact round.

Related: Don’t forget to acquire the Shotgun Rail Attachment, which is in a hidden facility on the island. It allows you to add extra mods like the Laser Sight and Weapon Flashlight.
