While trading is simple to trade on the surface, it can be a bit more complicated than that. This is because that it’s not actually a fully two-way trading system in Sons of the Forest; it’s simply one-way. When you trade with your co-op partner, there isn’t a way to guarantee a return item. This is probably fine however, because trading is mostly used for giving a friend food, items, or whatever they need. If the trade is going both ways, you can just ask your friend to trade with you as well.

This method is one of the only ways of trading in Sons of the Forest. You can cook food on a campfire other players can pick up, which is also a form of trading, I suppose. But other than methods such as the campfire one, the only real way of trading in Sons of the Forest is via the trade menu.
