Does Sons of the Forest have character creation?

You can look a little spiffier, at least.

Character creation is a staple in many games, especially those in the open-world survival genre like Sons of the Forest. Custom characters add a personal touch to the experience, though the value of such does vary from person to person. Here’s a rundown of what players can do with their characters, and if creation is possible in Sons of the Forest.

Is there character creation in Sons of the Forest?

The quick answer is no. Neither of the games in Endnight’s flagship survival series has character creation features, and it doesn’t seem like it plans on adding them any time soon. The main protagonist is an unnamed operator on a mission to rescue a couple of lost billionaires. The motivation behind Sons of the Forest‘s story is a lot less personal compared to the first game’s Eric Leblanc and his missing kid. But perhaps players might find out more about this game’s main character once they explore the island some more.

However, Sons of the Forest does feature character customization to a certain degree. Players will be able to wear different outfits to make them stand out among their friends. Clothing can be unlocked by exploring the island; make sure to rifle through unopened luggage bags and other containers so as not to miss anything. NPCs can also be given new clothes (such is the case for Kelvin, at least).

When playing in a co-op session, each player will get a random model assigned to them to keep things immersive and clone-free. The same customization rules above apply to everyone too. Keep in mind that armor also adds some visual flair on top of providing actual benefits, such as reduced visibility and protection against incoming damage.

A character creator would be nice but ultimately, its absence won’t detract from the core game experience. Then again, trudging through the dense woodlands while fending off hungry locals from a first-person perspective won’t exactly give players the chance to appreciate how their characters look, especially in single-player mode.
