The treacherously peaceful woods in Sons of the Forest hide a ton of mutants and cannibals with plenty more hiding underneath the surface. Surviving alone in this lush, green hellscape is totally possible, though it’ll definitely be a lot easier with friends. But can you gather your crew from all over? That would help if Sons of the Forest supported cross-play with many platforms.
Does Sons of the Forest have cross-play?
To get straight to the point: no, Sons of the Forest does not support cross-play or cross-platform multiplayer. As of the early access week, Sons of the Forest is only available on Steam. This was also the case with the original game, although The Forest did get a console release after going live. Endnight hasn’t said anything about the sequel getting ported to current-gen consoles, though this may not be completely out of the question. For now, players will have to get the game on Steam and play it on PC.
Sons of the Forest isn’t too demanding when it comes to hardware requirements, so there should be some leeway for players to enjoy it on lower-end machines. Here are the required and recommended system specs for your reference:
- Minimum system requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i5-8400 or AMD Ryzen 3 3300X
- GPU: NVIDIA GTX 1060 3GB or AMD Radeon RX 570 4GB
- RAM: 12 GB
- Storage: 20 GB (SSD preferred)
- Recommended system requirements
- OS: 64-bit Windows 10
- CPU: Intel Core i7-8700K or AMD Ryzen 5 3600X
- GPU: NVIDIA GeForce 1080Ti or AMD Radeon RX 5700 XT
- RAM: 16 GB
- Storage: 20 GB (SSD preferred)
In short, multiplayer in Sons of the Forest is strictly for PC players only. This might change a couple of years down the road, but it’s simply too early to tell if cross-play is ever going to become a thing for this game. Expect the developers to work on pushing the game to its intended release state before work on a console version can begin. To put this into context, Endnight released The Forest for consoles after four years of the game’s original launch date.
