The figures are now in for SimCity sales in the first two weeks of release courtesy of EA.
According to the EA figures, 1.1 million copies have been sold in the first two weeks with 54% of those coming from digital sales. 15 million hours of gameplay has been racked -up, 5.7 million cities created, 780 million buildings have been created and there’s enough tracks and road to circle the globe 40,000 times.
“SimCity had a great weekend with sales strong across both North America and Europe, adding to overwhelming demand at launch that has us tracking well beyond expectations for the game,” said EA’s COO Peter Moore.
“SimCity is one of the storied brands in gaming, and Maxis delivered a game re-envisioned and engineered for the online age.”
We all know how bad the launch was with server issues and to reiterate the work they have been putting in to get the game stable, the server capacity has been increased by 400% since launch day.
The only way is up for the game as the development team look to resolving some of the annoying gameplay issues. I will say that 1.1 million is less than I expected for such a flagship franchise, but it’s not a bad start for a game which has received a lot of negative press since launch.
