The Goomy evolution line has become a fan favorite ever since its introduction in Generation 6. It follows the Magikarp and Feebas design philosophy of transforming a weak Pokémon to an exceptionally strong one. In Goomy and Sliggoo’s case, they start out as the weakest Dragon Types of all only to become one of the strongest. Here’s our guide on how to evolve Sliggoo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet.

How to evolve Sliggoo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet
To obtain a Sliggoo in the first place, you can either catch a Sliggoo or evolve a Goomy. If you choose the latter approach, then Goomy evolves into Sliggoo at Level 40. Goomy can be encountered early on at the bottom of South Province (Area Four). Meanwhile, Sliggoo can only be found in the northwest of Paldea just south of Casseroya Lake.
Once you’ve obtained a Sliggoo, you’ll want to evolve it. To evolve Sliggoo in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet you’ll need to train it to level 50 or higher while it is raining or foggy in the overworld. Since you can’t control the weather, a common tactic is to get Sliggoo to level 50 and save a Rare Candy to use on it when it begins to rain.
Evolving Sliggoo can take some time, as the weather in Scarlet and Violet is random. The wait is worthwhile though, as Sliggoo’s evolution, Goodra, is an absolute monster. With its excellent Base 150 Special Defense plus its Base 100 Attack and Base 110 Special Attack, Goodra is a defensive Pokémon that still packs a punch.
Goodra also has an alternative form that was introduced in Pokémon Legends: Arceus. This Hisuian Form changes Goodra from a Pure Dragon type to a Dragon and Steel type. This is one of the best defensive typing in Pokémon, which is a perfect match for Goodra’s bulky stats. Unfortunately, Hisuian Goodra is not currently available in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, but we expect you’ll be able to transfer over and evolve Sliggoo into its other form sometime in the future.
Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet can be purchased on the Nintendo Store.
