Development on the West Balkans DLC map expansion for Euro Truck Simulator 2 continues behind the scenes. The latest dev update from developer SCS Software details how the many border crossings will work in the new expansion. With the West Balkans expansion featuring over eight countries, players can encounter up to 30 of them should they choose to explore every inch of all the new scenery.
Border crossings in Euro Truck Simulator 2 are nothing new. After all, the game features a wide variety of different countries already. But, with the West Balkans expansion featuring such a plethora of new countries within of itself, and the fact that not all of them are EU members, the border crossings here are a little more complex.
Players can expect their trucks and trailers to get thorough inspections, even with the use of X-rays in some cases. SCS has incorporated realistic laws of approved and prohibited cargo imports into this expansion. The team also made sure to keep the realism of the specific crossings intact, as their size and complexity vary depending on where they’re located.
“Papers, please”
Designers are creating “over 130 unique assets” for the new border crossings. There’s clearly lot of work getting poured into what is — for lack of a better term — arguably the most mundane part of the new expansion. After all, nobody likes going through security, no matter where you are. Yet, this process is receiving a lot of attention to make sure its virtual representation still mirrors the complexity of the real-world operations.
Euro Truck Simulator 2 – West Balkans DLC will feature a new swath of scenery and road networks that will allow players to venture into the lands of Bosnia, Herzegovnia, Montenegro, Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Kosovo, North Makedonia and Albania.
A release date has yet to be revealed. But judging by how long it’s been since its initial reveal, it wouldn’t be surprising if SCS has this ready in time for an early 2023 release.
