Warhammer 40K: Darktide – Can you get a Meltagun?

The burning question.

With tomorrow’s release of Warhammer 40,000: Darktide, fans everywhere can finally experience developer Fatshark’s latest take on the massive multimedia IP in full. As they work with their teammates to devastate enemy hordes, fans will inevitably want to experiment with the game’s assortment of weapons that hail from the Warhammer 40K franchise’s extensive lore. In particular, certain fans may want to cut loose with the Meltagun, a brutal heat-based weapon in the 40K universe that would fit perfectly within Darktide‘s violent, gritty tone. But can players find and use the Meltagun at any point in Darktide?

As of right now, the Meltagun does not make an official appearance as a usable weapon in Warhammer 40K: Darktide. So no matter how high of a level you reach or what penances you complete, your fantasy of causing carnage with the Meltagun will remain just that.

This does not mean that Darktide contains no trace of the Meltagun, however, as a recent datamine suggests that the weapon exists somewhere within the game’s code. We cannot yet say for sure what this means, but it seems probable that Fatshark will fully incorporate the Meltagun into the game through an update later down the line.

Any more details on the Meltagun?

Warhammer 40K fans know the Meltagun for its potent beam of concentrated heat that can easily melt enemies’ armor. Both Space Marines and especially the Astra Militarum’s troops serve as common wielders of the Meltagun, and since Warhammer 40K: Darktide prominently features the Astra Militarum as a major faction, adding the weapon in the game would be something of a no-brainer.

Until Fatshark releases a potential Meltagun update, players of Warhammer 40K: Darktide will have to stick with other weapons. The game does feature at least one other heat-based weapon, so that could serve as something of a substitute for the Meltagun for now.
