Pentiment guide – How to solve the Roman pottery vase puzzle

Before you try to solve the Roman pottery vase puzzle in Pentiment, guess who the playable character is. It’s none other than Magdelene, the daughter of Claus, the printing press fella and one of Andreas’ friends in the village. The game jumped 20 years since the abbey burned down, and everyone’s grown up.

In any case, you can also choose Magdalene’s character background. In my playthrough, I picked the Tinker option.

Continue progressing further and Magdalene will be given the chance to explore the salt mines in the woods. If you chose the Tinker background, you can rig a rope so you can go down. Just head back to your house and grab the rope from the desk, and you’ll be all set.

Down below, check the tunnel and side rooms for pottery pieces. You’ll need to collect around nine of them. If you’re missing one, don’t forget to check the chambers for stone steps that you can use.

Once you have all the pieces, you’ll be able to solve the Roman pottery vase puzzle in Pentiment. Click on a fragment and place it on any of the circles/sections, then rotate it so that it’s properly aligned.

The parts with the goddess head and chest should be at the middle-left section, with the dogs to the right of that.

Keep at it and take note of the patterns to you know which pieces ought to be connected to each other. The finished drawing should look like the one in the image below.

When you’re done, exit the salt mines. From here, you’ll continue onward until you reach the finale and possible endings of the campaign.
