Hellbound adds to the list of 90s stylized first-person shooters to get a modern treatment. The developer, Saibot Studios, promises violence and gore when you command Hellgore in the fast-paced shooter. The game is slated for a 2019 launch on PC via Steam, but the studio has announced that a playable survival mode is available today.
Hellbound is a ‘90s FPS, 20 years later with old-school gameplay, and new-school quality. Remember when shooters were brutally hard, fast-paced, and violent? Imagine that rendered grotesquely in Unreal Engine 4. In the Survival Mode available today for free, Hellgore smashes and blasts monsters in a wave-based arena, reveling in chaos as heavy metal and industrial music chugs in the background. Every wave summons hordes of enemies to cleave through.
Here are the five weapons available in the free survival mode:
- The Headcrusher
- Simple Shotgun,
- Triple Shotgun
- Indolora
- Rocket Launcher
- Power-ups like Hell Damage, Hell Speed, and Hell Skin increase your attack power, speed, and explosive resistance respectively.
Hellbound is currently on Kickstarter for backing. The studio promises that if the $100,000 funding is met, the studio can bring more of Hellgore’s story, multiplayer, and other features into full development. For now, information is sparse on the details of the story and more.
On the game’s Kickstarter page, it’s noted, “You play as Hellgore, a huge ass mother f**ker who loves killing Demons in Hell. That’s it. Actually… there’s a cool story too, but it doesn’t really matter for now.”
