Assassin’s Creed Infinity is more of a hub for the series and may allow crossover stories

To Infinity and beyond!

Assassin’s Creed games have been Ubisoft’s bread and butter over the last few generations. However, each game presents a somewhat standalone adventure, and so Ubisoft is looking to unify the experience with Assassin’s Creed Infinity. While we don’t know too much about Assassin’s Creed Infinity just yet, it appears that it will serve as a platform or hub for players to gather and enjoy each new release in the franchise.

In theory, Assassin’s Creed Infinity will be a hub for the franchise where new full games will all be accessed and potentially connected in ways we don’t know about yet. In an interview with Eurogamer, Ubisoft’s Marc-Alexis Coté discusses plans for Infinity and how it can act as a new location to house the modern-day storylines of the series.

“This is a momentous change for the franchise,” Coté said. “We will be better caretakers of our meta-story, and this hub will help us accomplish that promise. Infinity is not a game, per se. It’s going to be the single entry point for our fans into the Assassin’s Creed franchise into the future.”

All the assassins you could want

The future of Assassin’s Creed seems bigger than ever thanks to three recently announced games. Assassin’s Creed Mirage will be a shorter experience set in 9th century Baghdad and is due to be released next year. Assassin’s Creed: Codename Red will take fans to the much-requested era of feudal Japan. Finally, Assassin’s Creed: Codename Hexe may take the series in a darker and more horror-focused direction.

In the future, Ubisoft wants to have all Assassin’s Creed games accessible within the hub that Infinity provides. The modern-day story will be playable in Infinity down the road, and it’s even possible that some crossover stories could exist thanks to the unique shared platform provided by Infinity. The existence of Infinity may even allow Ubisoft more creative freedom to make shorter or even free Assassin’s Creed adventures in the future.
