Ubisoft is planning its Ubisoft Forward showcase this Saturday, with a focus on Assassin’s Creeds. Right, not just one from what reports are saying. According to industry insider Tom Henderson, Ubisoft is showing off not just Assassin’s Creed Mirage, but multiple new games coming to the franchise. According to the report, supported by Bloomberg, there are five games in the works along with DLC coming to AC Valhalla.
I recall a time when Ubisoft wanted to pull in the reins of the franchise, but that’s looking to be over. Ubisoft is revealing Assassin’s Creed Mirage for the first time, and it’ll be joined by the final DLC for Assassin’s Creed Valhalla. Beyond those two, Ubisoft will apparently hint at four other projects — one heading to mobile, and another as a VR game.
The new Assassin’s Creed games don’t have names, but the reports do include minor details. Assassin’s Creed Project Red is said to take place in Japan and, obviously, you play as a samurai. Project Hexe, on the other hand, is a bit of a turn for the franchise. If real, Hexe will take fans to 16th century Europe during the dark period of the witch trials. There’s also Project Jade, a mobile game set in China, and Project Nexus, which is heading to the VR platform.
You want a new Assassin’s Creed? How about five?
It’s pretty unusual for a company to announce so many new games in a single franchise at once. With that in mind, it’s wise to treat this rumor with some trepidation. However, fans have been clamoring for a Japanese Creed game ever since the originals introduced Altaïr and Ezio. And perhaps Ubisoft’s resolve wasn’t shaken enough by Ghost of Tsushima to eventually come around to it.
We’ll know for sure what Ubisoft wants to show off this Saturday during its Forward showcase. Mirage is going to be the highlight, however. Taking place in Baghdad, Assassin’s Creed Mirage stars a younger Basim — who was introduced in Valhalla.
