The HTC Vive is Getting a Wireless Upgrade with the New Vive Focus

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

VR technology is pretty cool, but one of the biggest drawbacks is that all of the premium headsets like the HTC Vive and Oculus Rift require players to remain tethered to a computer, draping wires all over the place. HTC has decided to address this issue with a sleek new redesign of the Vive headset.

Dubbed the Vive Focus’, this new VR headset is completely wireless. It sports its own Snapdragon 835 processor and has a battery (which charges via USB-C) that allows for up to three hours of play time. Of course, the feature that really makes the headset worth it is its 3K AMOLED screen that has a resolution of 2880 x 1600. Each headset comes with a Focus controller that has 9-axis sensors, a touchpad and a trigger.

The Vive Focus sounds like an interesting addition to the world of virtual reality. I’m looking forward to seeing if it will manage to catch on. The Vive Focus is set to launch later this year.
