Gamescom’s Opening Night Live was action-packed with announcements for games like Everywhere and Return to Monkey Island. Another reveal to get excited about is Dune: Awakening, which was shown off with a cinematic trailer. Unsurprisingly, the game is being developed by Funcom, and it’s an open-world MMO title. The upcoming release promises to mix of grittiness with the creativity we’ve come to expect in survival games.
In Dune: Awakening, you’ll have to survive the dangers of the desert — and there will be plenty. Encounter huge sandworms lurking beneath your feet, protect yourself against sandstorms, and more. There will be plenty of areas to explore, such as the debris from crashed space ships and other abandoned sites. The trailer shows some dilapidated ruins and a building that’s engulfed by the sandy landscape. A sandworm appears to attack the character in the trailer, who is ready with his weapon to take on the challenges thrown at him.
Take over the world of Arrakis
Throughout your journey, you’ll be able to customize your experience in detail. Using spice, for example, will allow you to explore your senses and gain abilities. At the same time, you’ll be able to customize your fortress in the style of your choice. Dune: Awakening is an MMO game, so this will be important as you fight enemies on foot and in the skies. Having the best gear when you’re building your faction will help you battle your way to the top.
If the Dune: Awakening trailer has caught your eye, you can check it out on Steam. A release date has yet to be announced, so make sure to stay tuned. In the mean time, you can sign up for the beta on the Dune Games website.
Check out the trailer for the game below, and get to speculating. We won’t know how the game will truly look for some time.
