March’s issue of Game Informer reveals what has been an open secret for a little while now; the existence of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt (although that sub-heading is definitely new information.) As expected, the game will be making use of CD Projekt’s REDengine 3 technology and is set to release in 2014.
The bits and pieces of information revealed with this, err, reveal, are rather interesting. This time around, Geralt will be in an open-world (said to be “larger than Skyrim“) with some non-linear plotlines for you to tackle as you please. Also, Geralt is getting on in years and has a beard now.
While there’ll be no shortage of fantasy politics and monster hunting to embroil yourself in, the ‘main’ storyline is said to be more of a personal one. It will be the final game in the series.
“Our team had to make significant design changes and our tech had to be rebuilt. But we believe that this will lead to a completely new level of nonlinearity and a whole new, richer gaming experience. As a gamer, I would love to play this kind of RPG and I think this is what many players are waiting for. This is our dream come true at CD Projekt RED, and we hope it will be the same for you,” says a rather excited Adam Badowski of CD Projekt.
Here’s a somewhat underwhelming teaser.
