Elden Ring was a smashing success right out of the gate, but that hasn’t stopped developer FromSoftware from trying to improve upon it in the months since. The studio has released various patches to improve the overall balance of the game or expand on features. The latest Elden Ring patch, patch 1.06, has gone live, and it has a lot going on. Let’s dive in.
The developers detailed all of the new changes on the Bandai Namco Entertainment website. It states that the team is “distributing an update to improve the stability of gameplay and to adjust balance.” The biggest change to the game concerns its co-op features. Players can now send summon signs to summoning pools in multiple locations, even those that are further away. The one exception to that is Mohgwyn Palace.
Players can also invade other players over a larger area, which should prove interesting for PvP encounters. Finally, FromSoftware has added a new method for advancing the questline of White Mask Varre. Previously, players could only complete this quest by participating in a specific number of multiplayer invasions, but now they can defeat a new NPC to achieve the same outcome.
Perfectly balanced, as all things should be
The changes to cooperative and PvP multiplayer should add a welcome wrinkle to those mechanics, and we’re very curious about the new NPC that came with this patch. However, FromSoftware didn’t stop there. Elden Ring patch 1.06 also includes a host of noteworthy balance changes to weapons.
The Greatsword, Curved Greatsword, and Great Hammers have all received substantial changes. The time it takes to enter a roll after attacking has been decreased, the motion speed of strong and charge attacks has been increased, and the motion speed of the Guard Counter has been increased. Great Axes have seen an improved attack speed and a reduction in the time it takes to begin a roll after attacking. For weapons with improved roll mechanics, the changes do not apply to jumping attacks, duel-wielding attacks, and mounted attacks.
Beyond these weapons, the new Elden Ring patch also increased the rolling distance for players who have light equip loads. The Glintstone Pebble and Glinstone Dart Ash of War have had their range increased and seen a decrease to their stagger power and damage.
Details regarding more weapon changes and bug fixes are listed in the full Elden Ring patch notes.
