After reaching the Golden Apple Archipelago in version 2.8, you’ll have a few things that you can do. One of these is good ol’ exploration to find Phantasmal Conches so you can unlock Fischl’s alternate costume. The other, at least for now, is the Surfpiercer activity, which involves your Waverider. Here’s our Genshin Impact guide to help you with the Surfpiercer activity as part of the Summertime Odyssey event in version 2.8.

Genshin Impact Surfpiercer activity guide (Summertime Odyssey)
Additional activities in the Golden Apple Archipelago will become available in the coming days. For now, we’ll just focus on the Surfpiercer activity in Genshin Impact. Basically, you’ll sail the Waverider to reach the finish line at the fastest time possible. There doesn’t seem to be any combat mechanics as of yet, so it’s mostly just about navigation and speed boosts.
Here’s the gist:
- You can collect green particles by passing through them or using the Coalesce action (“E” key). The Coalesce action has a fairly decent radius, so you’ll want to use that if the particles are clumped together or higher up in the air.
- Collecting enough of these fills up your Surfpiercer Surge meter (up to three charges). Each charge gives your vehicle a massive speed boost, as well as the means to destroy smaller/thinner obstacles (i.e., wooden fences and barricades).
- Near the finish line, you might notice wind currents/rings. You’ll need to hold the spacebar to jump out of the Waverider so you can glide through the current.
- As of now, the time limits for rewards are 140 seconds and 260 seconds (that means you’ll always want to reach the finish line before 140 seconds elapse). There may also be another task, such as destroying a number of obstacles or using the Waverider’s abilities a few times.
