Persona is a hot commodity nowadays, inspiring many games to follow its formula of RPG action mixed in with some romance. Demonschool, an upcoming tactical RPG, will release for PC in 2023. The creators are clearly taking pride in its inspirations, and is set to deliver a product fans of the Shin Megami Tensei series would love. The game is mixing in these elements with Italian-horror inspired graphics and set pieces, creating something truly unique and potentially horrifying. Those Italian horror movies are not to be underestimated.
Demonschool follows the newly minted freshmen Faye, the last remaining member of a “legendary demon hunter family.” Listen up Persona fans, because Demonschool pits Faye against the perils of both demonic figures and school life. The latter is arguably more terrifying, despite having to deal with Yakuza members and their summoning rituals. Strengthening your relationships with your classmates will also act as an important mechanic in the game, allowing you to increase your power.
Tactical horror
Like any good tactical RPG, you’ll plan out the movements of your units before letting them do their thing. The game promises to “[buck] genre conventions” with a unique RPG experience. This isn’t exactly a straightforward story, with friends joining cults while also joining some extracurriculars.
“We wanted to create a game with complete transparency while still allowing for mystery. You’ll never have to guess at numbers or what does what.” said Brandon Sheffield, creative director of Necrosoft Games. “We hope the story carries you through to a positive vision for the future, and what is possible when like-minded individuals work together against a larger evil.”
Demonschool doesn’t have a totally solid release date yet, but we do know it’s set to release sometime in 2023. The game will release for Steam. It’ll also be optimized for the Steam Deck, which should help pass the time. Meanwhile, you can visit Demonschool‘s official website to learn when class is back in session.
