Dragon Age II vanishes from Steam

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

In an act of magic befitting the game itself, Dragon Age II has performed a disappearing act from Steam.
Like Crysis 2 and Battlefield 3 (pre-orders) before it, the EA published title has been removed from the digital download service. It is claimed that the reason for these removals relates to a new Valve policy (introduced following Team Fortress 2 going free-to-play) that prevents DLC being sold in-game.
Dragon Age II’s latest DLC is sold in just such a fashion, and Battlefield 3 was supposedly going to use a similar system. However, this doesn’t really explain why games such as Codemasters’ DiRT 3 (which has the same approach to DLC and was released on the service after Crysis 2) are still sold via Steam.
Complicated policy smallprint is no doubt in play, but it’s also hard to ignore the fact that all of these games are published by EA and that EA titles started disappearing from Steam just after the company launched its own digital distribution service (Origin).
Despite being removed from sale on Steam, people who purchased Crysis 2 or Dragon Age II through the platform are still able to play them at this time.
