The Dead Space remake got its release date confirmed following today’s livestream which focused on the game’s art. Back in March, publisher Electronic Arts announced that the game would be out in early 2023. It hasn’t even been all that long. The company has been hitting it hard on the marketing push. It’s been two months since then, but we now know for sure that the horror returns when the Dead Space remake crawls from the ducts on January 27, 2023.
While that seems pretty far away, just think of this: it’s already May of 2022. I swear we just finished ringing in the new year. This is what getting older feels like, kids. During that timeframe, developer EA Motive has shown off the game from its audio to its art. The team has been collecting feedback, and is nearing Alpha stages.
“Developing this remake has been a lot of fun for us at Motive, as we’re true fans of the franchise and want to treat it with the respect it deserves,” said Philippe Ducharme, senior producer in a press release. “It’s been equally exciting to see players’ reactions as we’re taking them on this development journey with us.”
“We’re making great progress on our road to hitting Alpha and we’re happy to announce that the game will be launching in January next year,” Ducharme continued. “We can’t wait for players, both old and new, to see how we’ve elevated the original experience in the remake to be just as impactful for this generation.”
The art of horror
The Dead Space remake release date was dropped after today’s livestream, which you can catch above. During the show, Motive went over the art direction that made the original so great while showcasing how it’s been updated. As mentioned before, Motive has used the original game as a springboard, using it to influence the remake’s development. Art assets and character design are getting fancified but not replaced with anything fans would see as unusual.
Of course, if art changes go against the grain to fans, the developer will likely pivot. It has before.
The Dead Space remake is set for a January 27, 2023 release date. We’ll likely get more livestream showcases in the future, so keep your eyes peeled. And stay in the light.
