After dealing with absurd pricing across the graphics card market for quite some time, things could finally be easing up. According to an email sent to Tom’s Hardware, Asus will lower the prices of its GeForce RTX 30 Series graphics cards by up to 25%. This new pricing will take effect on April 1, but don’t worry, this isn’t an April Fools’ Day trick.
The reason behind this upcoming price change is the recent tariff lift on Chinese imports coming to the U.S. As such, prices can finally start going down. For now, only Asus has come forward to announce a reduction in graphics cards prices. But it’s possible that other companies will follow suit and lower their prices as well, which is something we’ve kept an eye on.
Another interesting thing to note is that the email apparently only mentioned GeForce RTX 30 Series cards. There was no mention of price cuts for older generations of Nvidia GPUs, or any of AMD’s lineup. That isn’t much cause for concern, as it could simply be a matter of time until we see price cuts affect those cards as well. The timing is interesting, though, since Nvidia’s RTX 3090 Ti was announced earlier today. The hope is that this card meets its MSRP of $1,999 USD, instead of reaching prices far beyond that. That isn’t very likely to happen in the short term, but we may get there eventually.
Things are finally starting to look good
It’s good to see Asus make the move to lower the prices of its graphics cards. Hopefully, this sparks other companies to do the same if they haven’t already. Gamers might finally be able to get their hands on an RTX 30 Series graphics card without having to break the bank.
It is worth noting that, even though April 1 is the date that’s been given, it could take slightly longer for retailers to reflect this change. So it’s best to keep an eye on where prices for graphics cards go from here and to see if other companies follow Asus’ lead. At the very least, it looks like things are finally starting to get back on track.
