Despite the dust kicked up by harassment lawsuits and earth-shattering acquisitions, Blizzard will keep on, keepin’ on. Earlier today, the company offered a small hint at its next, big project. Blizzard is now hiring out for developers to work on a new, AAA survival game for PC and console. The big takeaway is that this is an all-new IP, and unlike anything “Blizzard has created.”
The details, albeit slim, come from a new job posting for a full-time senior software engineer. Blizzard is apparently keen on making something “big, bold, and beautiful,” and is looking for the people to do the job. The company not-so-subtly asks not just for a passionate developer but “a good human being,” something that likely reflects the current state of things.
“A new world and a new journey await you. It is a world different from any other Blizzard has created,” reads the job posting description. “If you’re a passionate game developer, and, well, a good human being, then we’d love to talk to you. We have a new AAA survival game in the works, set in a new IP for PC/Console. It’s going to be amazing, and we’d love to bring you along for the ride. Together, we’ll build something big, bold, and beautiful.”
“Survive”
I am admittedly curious about this new, unannounced Blizzard AAA survival game. The genre isn’t one that the house of Diablo has dabbled with in the past. Blizzard is known for its real-time strategy games, action RPGs, and sexual harassment allegations. However, as a fan of survival games, I can’t help to find my interest piqued. Of course, since Blizzard is Blizzard and the company is going through staffing challenges, we’ll likely not see the game for a good, long time. We still don’t know when Diablo IV or Overwatch 2 are coming out, but it certainly won’t be this year.
Update: Blizzard has posted a blog page on the unannounced project and included some art.
