In the early hours of yesterday Blizzard revealed its plans for Diablo 3, which now includes RMT, DRM and no modding.
It’s been a busy 24 hours for the Diablo community who have had to come to terms with some major new additions to the action RPG. During their press event last week they revealed the addition of an RMT auction house, the fact players will have to connect to Battle.net to play the game and the fact there will be no modding whatsoever.
We can safely say that quite few jaws dropped when the info was revealed on Diablo: IncGamers in the early hours of the morning (the site got so busy it was taken offline due to the massive traffic influx). The general consensus is that RMT is not exactly a great addition to the game and Blizzard’s reasoning that players will be able to sell characters and items in a safe environment isn’t reason enough to add the feature. There will be two auction houses in the game, one that deals with gold and another with real money.
Players will need to be hooked onto Battle.net to play the game which has angered many players who feel that it is too restrictive in a game such as Diablo 3. The no modding has also disappointed many, although it comes as no huge surprise.
Blizzard have obviously been looking at ways to monetise the game post release and there has been a lot of speculation as to how they would do this but based on what we have seen with World of Warcraft, Blizzard are taking some of those game mechanics and adding them to Diablo 3.
Diablo: IncGamers has been covering the last 24 hour extensively and watching the community reactions to the news and you can find all the debate, arguments and general discussion on these latest developments on the site.
