Sega and Microsoft form alliance to develop ‘Super Game’ using cloud tech

To be this super takes ages.

Earlier this year, Sega’s 2020 financial report revealed that they plan to release a “Super Game” sometime within the following five years. The report only offered light hints as to what this might entail. So, as one might expect, fans of the company feverishly speculated over the finer details of this project. Just today, Sega revealed a little bit more about this new, and admittedly intriguing, Super Game stating that the company has partnered with Microsoft to make it happen. Those who wish to read the announcement in full can visit Sega’s official website.

According to the announcement, Sega established this partnership to explore how the company can “produce large-scale, global games in a next-generation development environment built on Microsoft’s Azure cloud platform.” Additionally, Sega noted that the partnership serves as “a key part of [the company’s] mid to long-term strategy, allowing the business to move forward with Super Game.” Sega explained that the Super Game will revolve around four key focuses: “Online,” “Global,” “IP utilization,” and “Community.”

Taking advantage of evolving technologies

The announcement goes on to discuss cloud gaming and how “the widespread deployment of 5G and cloud services in recent years” have allowed consumers to enjoy content with more ease. According to Sega, “the ecosystem surrounding the games industry continues to evolve and expand as more sophisticated tools and technologies become available.” With this partnership, Sega aims to look toward the future so it can “optimi[z]e development processes and continue to bring high-quality experiences to players using Azure cloud technologies.”

The news about Sega partnering with Microsoft to develop a Super Game will certainly catch the interest of longtime followers of both companies. This Super Game is still shrouded in mystery, and fans on social media will likely amplify their speculation over it as a result of this news.
