id Software call on other developers to follow suit.
Speaking at QuakeCon, id Software’s John Carmack revealed that the source code for 2004’s Doom 3will be made public following the release of Rage this October.
Carmack said the code needs a quick polish before it’s ready to be unveiled and that it still has to pass the gauntlet of the legal department. However, id Software’s parent company, ZeniMax Media, have given it the green light.
Carmack went on to add that he hoped other developers would do the same as it’s a good way for young developers to hone their skills.
We recently conducted an interview with Rage’s creative director, Tim Willits. Read it here.
