Minecraft dev receives legal notice from Bethesda

The creator of Minecraft, Markus “Notch” Persson has received a letter from lawyers acting on behalf of ZeniMax Media (parent company of Bethesda).
This legal notice concerns a forthcoming title that Notch is working on called Scrolls (a game styled after collectible card games), which ZeniMax’s legal-eagles apparently feel has a name that’s a bit too close to The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.
The letter claims this is a trademark infringement.
While this may seem borderline absurd, given that everybody calls Skyrim … well … Skyrim, and that game is an open-world RPG rather than a virtual card game, lawyers do move in mysterious ways.
Bethesda has yet to comment on the matter, presumably because they’re all too busy at QuakeCon.
UPDATE: Notch has posted more information about this on his personal blog, in which he explains that Bethesda/ZeniMax had previously challenged the registration of Scrolls as a trademark.
