Axiom Verge 2 got a surprise release date announcement for today, and it’ll be available soon on the Epic Games Store. The reveal was made during today’s Nintendo Indie World Showcase. For those who have been following the game’s progress, Axiom Verge 2 has been hit by a number of delays. But after two years since its reveal, you will soon have the game in your hands.
The game’s creator, Thomas Happ, took to Twitter this morning to follow up on the Indie World announcement. According to Happ, the game will be available on the Epic Games Store (as an exclusive) starting at 3 PM ET today. The game is hitting consoles first, so if you have a PlayStation 4 or a Switch and just can’t wait another minute, then you have options.
The game was revealed way back in 2019 for a 2020 launch on the Nintendo Switch. Well, that didn’t happen, clearly. Axiom Verge 2 got delayed from its initial release date multiple times. The last delay was reported in May, where Happ said it needed only a few more months in the oven, and that it will be “better for the additional time.”
Surprise! Axiom Verge 2 drops later TODAY on Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Epic Games Store!

Axiom Verge 2 is out
The game was announced for the Epic Games Store back in February. Happ wrote in a message to the community that Epic was assisting in the game’s development, but he didn’t elaborate on what. As for Steam users, Happ mentioned that Axiom Verge 2 will end up on the storefront “eventually,” as he felt grateful for the relationship he and Valve shared when the first game released.
Axiom Verge 2 takes you to an “Earth-like world” where you explore the decaying ruins of an advanced civilization. It exists in the same story of the original, but with the possibility that many years or centuries have passed. Likely, there will be plenty of clues to discover, leading you to fill the gaps of history.
“Axiom Verge 2 is part of the same story as Axiom Verge 1 but is a completely new game: new characters, new powers, new enemies, and a new world,” reads the game’s description. “You can play it before or after the original. Meet Indra, the mysterious billionaire behind the worldwide Globe 3 conglomerate. What is this world she’s found? Who are the voices that seem to be calling to her?”
