Star Citizen launches pledge enlistment contest to boost funds

Chris Roberts’ Star Citizen title is already sat on close to $3 million USD (around 150% of its original goal), but the team aren’t sitting around twiddling their thumbs. Instead, they’ve been devising ways of raising even more money to reach potential stretch goals like additional star systems and ship classes.

What better way to do that than to offer an incentive to those who’ve already pledged money into getting donations out of their friends? That’s the plan, anyway.

If you’ve already donated to Star Citizen and can convince some others who’d like to do the same, you’ll be in with a chance to win some prizes. This scheme does have a slight whiff of aggressive marketing about it; especially since friends have to donate at the $35 USD point or above to ‘count’ in the contest, but hey.

The person who ‘recruits’ the most additional donations will win the grand prize of an Alienware Aurora Desktop PC (you can find the stats for it on the contest page), while runners up can win gamepads and graphics cards. Every day, prizes will also be awarded randomly to people with at least one recruit made on that day.

To make sure a given recruit ‘counts’ for you, you’ll need to get them to pledge through a special URL that you’ll find in your ‘My Account’ page. Alternatively, the person donating can reference your username or email address during the process.

Recruits themselves will also be in with a chance of winning certain prizes. Again, check on the contest page for the full details.
