There were some rumors floating around the internet about 5th Cell and its future in the gaming business, and now we have an indirect confirmation about the problems within the studio.
Scribblenauts Unlimited studio 5th Cell did not shut down entirely, but it will continue with a far smaller workforce.
Lead animator Tim Borrelli tweeted yesterday that the studio had closed, but 5th Cell released an official press statement that around 45 people have been laid off due to the cancellation of an upcoming Scribblenauts for mobile devices.
RIP 5TH Cell. If anyone is looking for kickass artists, programmers, designers, QA, IT, and more, let me know. pic.twitter.com/xwMZVF76Wb

5th Cell stated the following:
“Unfortunately, due to a project cancellation, we have had to let go of 45 of our very talented staff members today (….) Layoffs aren’t something we take lightly and we’d like to thank all our employees for all the hard work and dedication over the years.”
“(…) 5th Cell as a company is not closing down, but our focus right now is 100% on helping our staff make the transition to other external opportunities. If we haven’t already reached out, any interested employer can reach us at [email protected].”
Scribblenauts games were pretty popular among gamers, because of its unique and smart concept. Couple years ago, it reached Steam for the first time and its pretty sad to see another talented studio being struck by financial problems and layoffs.
