Playdead purchases self, regains independence

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Playdead, the developer behind Limbo, has purchased itself back from investors using money raised from the game’s smash-hit success.
Limbo is credited as the third highest selling Xbox LIVE Arcade title of 2010, with sales exceeding half a million. It subsequently launched on PlayStation Network and for the PC through Steam, so presumably those figures are now even higher.
Originally, Limbo’s development was self-funded and supplemented by arts grants from the Danish government, but as the project grew Playdead had to turn to external investors.
However, the developer has now paid off those shareholders.
“This is a big step on our way to become fully independent,” said Playdead CEO Dino Patti.
