In a recent interview, Eidos Montreal art director Jonathan Jacques-Belletête has confirmed what many may have suspected, that the Montreal section of Human Revolution was intended as a full hub.
“There were outdoor locations set in one of the most famous neighbourhoods of Montreal, called Plateau,” he said. “We’d drawn concept art of how these streets would look in 20 or 30 years from now. We even tried them in-game.”
Unfortunately, the realities of the development process and time restrictions meant that Montreal never made it into the game as a full hub like Detroit or Hengsha.
Lead designer Frank Lapikas has confirmed that in the early stages of design, there was even a plan to send Adam Jensen to India.
“At the beginning of the project we even planned to go to India. But as we constructed the city hubs, and understood the amount of work it took, we had to pare it down,” Lapikas said.
From the sounds of it, India was cut quite early on, but it’s a shame to hear how close we came to seeing more of Montreal. The city hubs were a great part of an excellent game, so naturally it would’ve been nice to have another one.
