Another month has passed and we say goodbye to Genshin Impact‘s Beneath the Light of Jadeite. But, that also means that we’ll welcome version 1.6 which brings additional content for players. We’ll see a new region called the Golden Apple Archipelago open up, a brand new 5-star character (Kazuha), a formidable enemy called the Maguu Kenki, and more. In any case, here’s our guide/overview to let you know about Genshin Impact‘s version 1.6 update, the Midsummer Island Adventure.

Genshin Impact: New events and content in version 1.6’s Midsummer Island Adventure update
The Midsummer Island Adventure premier event and Golden Apple Archipelago region
The biggest chunk of Genshin Impact‘s version 1.6 update is, of course, the Midsummer Island Adventure. This premier event starts off when the Traveler tries to help out Klee. It looks like someone called the Dodo-King wants to steal Dodoco (Klee’s stuffed toy). Eventually, a new region called the Golden Apple Archipelago is revealed.
The region itself only has a few islands right now, and you can sail to these using a boat called the Waverider. Still, we expect that more will be revealed in the coming days, at least until June 17 when the final phase goes live. You can learn more by checking out our main guide for the Golden Apple Archipelago.
New challenges
As of today, only the Act I: Make Cannon, Make Ready, Fire challenge is available. It entails using the Waverider to blast floating towers at sea, eliminating hostile hilichurls and their wind barriers.
You can learn more about the mechanics in our challenge guide.
The following acts/challenges are due to arrive in the near future:
- Act II: Whirlpool off to the Starboard, Full Speed Ahead (June 11) – This one has you sailing the Waverider and gliding to collect Wavesplitter Insignias within the time limit.
- Act III: Samurai Sighted, To Arms (June 14) – There are objectives here related to defeating the new Maguu Kenki enemy (seen below).
- Act IV: Harpastum Bombs Loaded, Blow Them Away (June 17) – This lets you craft Harpastum Bombs to defeat more monsters. If you obtain enough currency, you may also acquire a 4-star catalyst weapon called Dodoco Tales.
Note: The entire event chain, including exchanging your rewards, is expected to last until June 29.
New swimsuits for Jean and Barbara
Since things are heating up for the summer, Jean and Barbara mention that they’d like to go for a swim. The version 1.6 update lets you acquire swimsuits for the two sisters. In Barbara’s case, you’ll be able to obtain her outfit once you’ve found all 24 Echoing Conches as part of the Echoing Tales event. Since we’re still waiting for the other islands to show up, only a handful of conches can be found today.
Note: If you’re unable to get Barbara’s swimsuit during the course of Genshin Impact‘s version 1.6 timeframe, the attire will be available for purchase at the in-game shop for 1,680 Genesis Crystals (i.e., cash).
As for Jean, her beach outfit can only be obtained by spending 1,350 Genesis Crystals in the in-game shop. This is actually the discounted price.
It’ll go back to the regular price of 1,680 Genesis Crystals on July 19 once version 1.6 ends and we transition to version 1.7.
Klee and Kazuha
From today until June 29, Klee is part of a featured wish banner called “Fleeing Sunlight.” This is just a banner rerun, so you can grab Klee now if you missed out the first time that she was available. The diminutive bomber is a force to be reckoned with thanks to her top-notch Pyro DPS. You can check out our Klee build guide for more info.
Once Klee’s banner is done, we’ll get to see Kaedehara Kazuha. He’s actually the first character from the region of Inazuma (Genshin Impact‘s depiction of Japan) which is where players will eventually travel to in a future update. Kazuha is a 5-star Anemo-based character. He uses his abilities to pull and annihilate foes. A 5-star sword called Freedom-Sworn is also expected to arrive coinciding with Kazuha’s release, so it’d probably be a good fit for the character.
Serenitea Pot companion move-in feature
Before, you’ve probably spent your time in your Serenitea Pot abode all by your lonesome (unless you have in-game friends who are willing to speed up the crafting process). With the Midsummer Island Adventure update, you can now bring other characters to settle in your home.
Characters will accrue friendship EXP over time, allowing you to unlock their themed name cards eventually. Likewise, if you purchase and build the furnishing set blueprints that they favor, they’ll even give you rewards such as primogems, mora, and materials. You can learn more about this new feature in our Serenitea Pot companion move-in guide.
In any case, we’ll keep you updated with more guides about the content that’s part of Genshin Impact‘s version 1.6 Midsummer Island Adventure update. You can view the two-part blog post from miHoYo here.
