The Witcher 3 director Konrad Tomaszkiewicz, has resigned from CD Projekt Red after more than 10 years with the developer. According to a Bloomberg report, the studio recently launched a thorough investigation into workplace bullying allegations made against Tomaszkiewicz. The investigation reportedly found Tomaszkiewicz not guilty, but he chose to leave CD Projekt Red anyway.
In an email from Tomaszkiewicz to CD Projekt Red staff, Tomaszkiewicz apologized for causing “bad blood.” He added that he knew the staff felt “fear, stress, or discomfort” around him. As such, Tomaszkiewicz decided to walk away from the company, despite being cleared of the allegations. According to Bloomberg‘s report, CD Projekt Red’s board agreed with his decision.
“I am going to continue working on myself,” Tomaszkiewicz concluded in the email. “Changing behavior is a long and arduous process, but I’m not giving up, and I hope to change.”
Tomaszkiewicz was reportedly going to play a huge role in the development of CD Projekt Red’s next The Witcher installment. The former Witcher 3 director told Bloomberg that he was “sad” to have resigned from the studio after so many years and projects. Tomaszkiewicz’s LinkedIn profile boasts 17 years with CD Projekt Red and four games, including all The Witcher installments, The Witcher 3 DLC, and Cyberpunk 2077.
Changes at CD Projekt Red
CD Projekt Red has seen a few personnel changes and company updates in recent months. Back in March, Cyberpunk 2077‘s longtime lead gameplay designer announced his departure from the company. Andrzej Zawadzki did not provide a reason for leaving the development studio. However, he did reveal that he was heading off on “long holidays” following Cyberpunk 2077‘s tumultuous launch.
Shortly after Zawadzki’s departure, CD Projekt Red announced that it has launched a plan to improve its strategies. This plan includes not only marketing changes, but also some workplace changes. CD Projekt Red said it looked into a better workplace environment and cross-functional teams with a focus on avoiding burnout. By 2022, fans may see a brand new CD Projekt Red.
