TRION announces proprietary gaming platform Red Door

This article is over 13 years old and may contain outdated information

Following the success of RIFT, TRION has announced their proprietary gaming platform codenamed Red Door.
TRION has had relative success with their first title RIFT which launched back in March and they are currently working on two announced projects, the MMORTS End of Nations in conjunction with Petroglyph and the upcoming TV tie-in MMO Defiance. These TRION titles are driven by the platform and they now feel it is time to open up the technology to developers.
Today TRION revealed a new consumer and developer/publisher platform codenamed Red Door which will enable developers and publishers to bring games to market faster utilising the technology TRION has created with their current titles. As far as consumers are concerned, TRION are also looking to create a single trusted destination site for online games with social features where gamers can download content and enjoy the services provided by the platform.
“Media and entertainment are transforming into connected services that evolve around the user,” said Dr. Lars Buttler, CEO of Trion Worlds. “Our goal is to revolutionize premium games and help the industry realize its potential in the connected era.  Our first title Rift is just the tip of the iceberg; with Red Door we intend to catalyze significant change for the industry and unleash new creative possibilities.  We want to hear from those with big bold ideas and dreams.”
TRION are currently in talks with other developers and publishers developing games that are ‘living worlds’ or MMOs about utilising the platform. Buttler is hoping that consumers will view the new platform as “games as a service” and not a social network, similar to Xbox Live.
Red Door is set to launch some time in spring 2012.
