AMD’s RDNA 2-based GPUs have turned out to be huge successes so far. The company is finally back at the top of the high-performance graphics market, but it still hasn’t introduced its lower-tier cards. That’s about to change, though. The Radeon Twitter account announced today that it will unveil the next addition to the RX 6000 family of graphics cards on March 3 at 11 AM ET. We presume that will relate to the 6700 family of Radeon products and include word on the specs and release date. You’ll be able to catch the livestream in several places, but YouTube is always a surefire bet.
As for what to expect, we can only speculate. The performance of the 6800, 6800XT, and 6900XT cards trade blows with Nvidia’s RTX 30 Series across a number of games. The performance as been very impressive in all but ray tracing performance. Nvidia clearly has the edge on the fancy lighting for now, but that tech is still sparingly used by gamers if we’re being perfectly honest. AMD is competing in the broader sense, and the 6700 is likely going to apply pressure to Nvidia’s 3060 and 3060 Ti cards.
A likely winner for midrange gamers
Pricing is what we are still largely uncertain of, and that factor will largely determine the value of the 6700. Under normal market conditions, I’d expect AMD to undercut Nvidia like it did with the previous generation, but things are a little different this time around. With consumer demand at all-time highs, AMD can easily charge a little more for the 6700 if it so chooses. Desperate gamers and scalpers are going to buy them either way. Street prices will certainly be a huge black mark on what should otherwise be an impressive product launch.
When we do learn about the actual release date for the Radeon 6700 cards, we will fill you in immediately. You’re more than welcome to get hyped about the performance capabilities of the cards, just keep your buying expectations in check.
