After a few teasers on Twitter and Reddit, Creative Assembly has finally unveiled what can only be considered as its biggest game yet. It’s none other than Total War: Warhammer III.
Indeed, I would consider Total War: Warhammer III as one of my most anticipated games of 2021. I can only surmise that long-time fans are also salivating (like a Chaos cultist) at the idea of the trilogy’s culmination.
Total War: Warhammer III – Say hello to the Daemons of Chaos, Kislev, and Cathay
Chief among the factions to join the roster in Total War: Warhammer III are the Daemons of Chaos. As of now, it’s rumored the Daemons of Chaos are part of splinter groups also known as “monogod” factions. That means their forces serve a particular Chaos god whether it’s the vicious and berserk Khorne, the maniacal Slaanesh, the mysterious Tzeentch, or the corrupted Nurgle.
For now, we still don’t know who will be leading the daemonic hordes. My guess, however, would be Skarbrand (for Khorne), Kairos Fateweaver (for Tzeentch), and possibly Rotigus and N’kari for Nurgle’s and Slaanesh’s armies respectively.
Opposing the darkness are two civilized races. Firstly, there’s the icy kingdom of Kislev (Kislev.) which seems to be led by the Ice Queen, Tzarina Katarin Bokha. With wielders of freezing magic, as well as elite lancers and bear cavalry, Kislev’s soldiers can be very formidable.
An even bigger surprise that almost no one expected is another “Order” faction: the empire of Grand Cathay. The nation, which is a stand-in for China in the real world, barely had a mention in Warhammer Fantasy Battles. Now, it’ll become a full-fledged faction in Total War: Warhammer III. One can only guess at what Creative Assembly has in store. If the Vampire Coast and Norsca are any indication, we know that the studio can craft some unique and fleshed-out rosters. Heck, knowing that this is Cathay we’re talking about, they’ll probably be fighting ninja Skaven from Clan Eshin too.
Creative Assembly hasn’t revealed more details, but we do know that Total War: Warhammer III will have nine legendary lords from the get-go. We’re sure to find out more in due course since the game will release sometime in 2021.
Likewise, the studio promises an early adopter bonus which will be a race pack (fingers crossed that it’s the Chaos Dwarfs). Moreover, there will be a huge combined map that’ll let you play as numerous legendary lords if you own the two previous games as well. It’s even cited that “an ancient figure” desires supreme power and needs a champion. Your guess is as good as mine, but I’m thinking that it’s either Nagash or Be’lakor.
In any case, you can watch the announcement trailer below. You may also check Total War: Warhammer III‘s Steam store page and its official FAQ. Sigmar preserve us, for the End Times are here.
