Foreclosed developer details its comic-inspired cyberpunk shooting game

In a world, where...

I know what you’re thinking: “the world surely needs more cyberpunk games.” Well, the gaming gods have heard your prayers, as Foreclosed, an upcoming narrative shooter from developer Antab Studio, has just received some new details. In Foreclosed, you take control of Evan Kapnos who has been, well, “foreclosed.” In other words, he’s been stripped of his job and cybernetic implants and must flee his home in order to live another day. It’s a setup that’s perfect for the genre.

On the game’s Steam page, the developer has shared some more info on the game and its world. The way it works is that each person is born into debt. As they grow older, their debt increases, as it is wont to do. When they finally reach working age, they have to find an employer willing to pay their “identity debt,” which will be paid back via working for them. The rising action in Foreclosed gets kickstarted when Evan’s employer, Securetech, goes bankrupt and his life as he knows it is turned upside down. It’s kind of like Repo: The Genetic Opera if I didn’t totally hate that movie to death. Once he has been foreclosed, he can’t even use things in his apartment. If he wanted to microwave some futuristic cyber-popcorn, he wouldn’t even be able to do that.

Gotta hate red tape

Foreclosed‘s narrative focuses on the potential failings of bureaucracy and is based directly on the developer’s experience with said failings. The game itself is not just about action, but it’s also an interactive graphic novel, as is obvious from watching the trailer below. I, for one, am completely sold by the premise, so I’ll certainly be playing the game when it launches later this year. I just hope I don’t lose access to my microwave. I don’t even want to think about the consequences of that.

Here’s the trailer if you want to see it:
