The free-to-play multiplayer scene has been curiously devoid of any and all dragon-flying games. Century: Age of Ashes, from developer Playwing LTD, is set to fill that hole. The game is set for a February launch window and is coming to Steam, so everyone can hop on a dragon and fly in just a couple months’ time. It’s been nearly a decade-and-a-half since Lair answered the question: “what if this awesome thing wasn’t terrible?” So, it’s about time we get something that everyone can enjoy.
Century: Age of Ashes is obviously entirely multiplayer. Players will be able to choose from multiple classes and several different dragons on top of that. They’ll then take to combat arenas to duke it out with other players. The game isn’t entering full release, however, and is going to be Early Access. As of right now, you can request to join the game’s playtest if you’d like to get even earlier early access.
Like Panzer Dragoon, but multiplayer — sort of
For the game’s launch, the developer is promising a solid base with multiple maps. There’s no exact timeframe on how long Century: Age of Ashes will remain in early access, but they’re expecting it to last about a year. As development moves forward, there will be new maps and classes to pick from. At launch, there are set to be three classes, three game modes, a rookie mode, and three different arenas. As it’s a free-to-play game, it’s going to remain that way but there will be things to either unlock via play or purchase as microtransactions.
The developer is hoping to take player feedback into consideration in order to make Century: Age of Ashes as good as it can be. I’m not typically one for multiplayer games but I’m certainly going to check this one out. I mean, dragon riders? Who could say no to that?
