Based on the real-life AK5, the Krig 6 is a full-auto assault rifle with a high damage profile but a slower fire rate. Given the strength of tactical rifles and SMGs in Black Ops Cold War, many assault rifles like the Krig 6 have fallen out of favor. They handle slower than assault rifles from the previous Call of Duty games and most encounters aren’t at a long enough range to justify their more favorable damage fall-off values.
Despite this, they can still be fun to use and play a decent role on certain maps. Among Black Ops Cold Wars‘ six assault rifles, I’d argue that the Krig 6 is only outdone by the AK-47 and XM4. In the right hands, this thing can deal some serious damage thanks to its high headshot multiplier of 1.5x. That value means that mixing just one headshot into a gunfight will always reduce your shots-to-kill by one, bringing the time-to-kill down to a competitive 276 milliseconds.
Krig 6 Gunfighter build
- Optic: Microflex LED
- Muzzle: Infantry Compensator
- Barrel: 19.7″ Ranger
- Body: SOF Target Designator
- Underbarrel: Field Agent Foregrip
- Magazine: Jungle-style Mag
- Handle: Airborne Elastic Wrap
- Stock: Raider Stock
Unfortunately for the Krig 6, it comes stock with many downsides. Its slow fire rate, awkward recoil, and mediocre handling mean we are going to need all eight attachment slots to make it viable. Due to this, I generally recommend running the Gunfighter wildcard. However, if you can find a way to make this work with just five attachments then feel free to switch over to the otherwise superior Perk Greed instead.
As with any gun build, the optic you use is widely down to personal preference. Given the Krig 6’s sub-par long-range performance, I’d recommend opting for a close-mid range sight. The Microflex LED is exclusive to assault rifles and is arguably the clearest optic in Black Ops Cold War. Other potential alternatives include the Millstop Reflex, Kobra Red Dot, and Diamondback Reflex.
It may seem a little controversial to use the Infantry Compensator as it trades off horizontal recoil control for vertical recoil control. I prefer this to the standard Muzzle Brake though, as I don’t find the Krig 6 to have much horizontal recoil in the first place. Even after adding the 8% penalty provided by the compensator, it still fires relatively straight. Consider taking the Suppressor instead if you want to play more aggressive without being punished. Regardless of muzzle choice, the Field Agent Foregrip is a must pick for your underbarrel. It negates the penalty provided by the compensator by reducing horizontal recoil by a whole 20%. When combined with the 26% vertical recoil reduction both attachments total to, this Krig 6 build becomes exceptionally accurate.
For the barrel, you want to opt for the 19.7″ Ranger regardless of build. In Black Ops Cold War, most guns have slow bullet velocities. This makes hitting shots beyond fifty meters awkward at times. The Ranger barrel doubles your bullet velocity up to 1250 meters-per-second, making it feel closer to a hit scan weapon. This also makes the Krig 6 far more viable in long-range modes like Dirty Bomb and Warzone, where it otherwise struggles. Speaking of long-range, the SOF Target Designator makes spotting enemies at extreme distances far easier. It’s by no means essential for this build, but I think it’s the best overall choice for your body attachment. The other notable option is the 5mw Laser Sight, which makes the Krig far more accurate while hip-firing. I didn’t like this though, as the 40 millisecond aim-down-sights penalty makes the build feel a little heavy.
For the magazine slot, I think the Jungle-style mag edges it out. I find myself reloading a lot on the go after just a kill or two. Reducing that reload time to just 1.3 seconds is convenient. Contrary to the in-game statistics, the Krig 6 will never take a whole 2.6 seconds to reload regardless of which magazine you use. That would be extremely slow for an assault rifle. Instead, the two magazines that provide reload penalties take around two seconds. Don’t be scared to try out the 40 round mag if you find yourself needing a few more shots to chain kills together. Any of the magazines that give an aim-down-sights penalty are generally not worth using.
Finally, the Airborne Elastic Wrap and Raider Stock are used to drastically improve the Krig 6’s handling. The former reduces your aim-down-sights time by 90 milliseconds while also giving you the ability to drop shot and fire at the same time. The flinch reduction it provides is negligible. Unfortunately, this does hurt your sprint-to-fire time so I like to use the Raider Stock to counteract this. The Raider Stock will reduce your sprint-to-fire time by 30%, negating the main con of the Airborne Elastic Wrap entirely. As a nice side effect, it also speeds up your walking speed while aiming down sights by an impressive 40%. This will make the Krig 6 feel much more like a submachine gun while strafing than an assault rifle.
