Destiny 2: Beyond Light – Deep Stone Crypt raid third encounter guide (Rapture/Crash)
The third encounter takes place in a small chamber. Taniks, the Abominable, the same fella from Destiny 1 and the monstrosity that greeted you prior to fighting Atraks-1 will be guarding this room.
Loadouts/subclasses
For subclasses, you should be fine with a Nightstalker for Tether (crowd control) and a Warlock with Well of Radiance (survivability). Titans could use a crowd-clearing super (i.e., Sentinel bottom tree with Doom Fang Pauldrons) or provide extra survivability with the Ward of Dawn bubble.
As for weapons, any will do, but I found that Riskrunner remains fairly useful here due to all the Arc damage from Fallen. For your heavy, you’re better off using a sword to quickly kill mobs.
Teams/roles
Instead of dividing the entire fireteam into subgroups, just focus on specific roles (one main and one substitute). The buffs could be picked up from the corresponding vandals that drop them in various areas:
- Scanner (yellow)
- Operator (red)
- Suppressor (blue)
Operator
Take note of the core stations on the left and right sides of the map. Your job is to shoot the panels on these so they can spawn nuclear cores.
Suppressor
Your task is to look for three security drones floating around the area. Stand under them and shoot Taniks. Once you do this three times (via the third security drone), you’ll allow your teammates to “bank” their nuclear cores.
Scanner
The Scanner’s job is to check the center of the room to see which of the boxes/banks start glowing yellow. You’ll hear a siren to notify you which receptacles are the correct ones.
Do a callout such as:
- Left 1/L1 (the box on the left that’s close to the boss)
- Right 2/R2 (the box on the right that’s further away from the boss).
Nuclear cores and the Radiation debuff
Once the Operator has shot the panels, the players without buffs need to pick up the nuclear cores. You’ll then need to carry these orbs to the correct receptacles called out by the Scanner. The Suppressor, meanwhile, shoots and stuns Taniks using the security drone mechanic. This will allow you to bank the cores.
However, while you’re making your way to the correct receptacles, you’ll notice the “Radiation” debuff. Once this stacks to 10, you’ll end up dead. As such, it’s important to have your other teammates take this orb from you when your stacks are high. When you’re no longer holding the nuclear core, the “Radiation” debuff slowly dissipates and you can pick up again a bit later.
Passing the augmentation buffs
After the Suppressor stuns Taniks, a random augmentation (i.e., Scanner, Operator, or Suppressor) will become deactivated. If you have an assigned role and this happens, quickly interact with the augmentation device in the center of the room. After you deposit the augmentation, your teammate (the “sub” or substitute) can pick this up.
While you’re unable to pick up the buff again, you should be picking up a nuclear orb or clearing adds (generally supporting the rest of your team). Later, you should be able to pick up your buff again. Just ask a teammate to deposit it using the augmentation device.
Run like hell
You’ll need to do the above (grabbing and depositing two nuclear cores in the correct banks) a total of five times. This will lead to a quick transition phase where you need to jump down an airlock.
Taniks will chase you across a corridor, so make sure you sprint, skate, and sword swing your way towards the end. If Taniks reaches you, you’re dead. But, if at least one member of the fireteam makes it to the final room, it’ll close and you’ll be safe.
The station crashes, hence the “Crash” encounter name. Go ahead and grab your loot and be ready to battle Taniks, the Abomination. He’s the final boss of Destiny 2: Beyond Light‘s Deep Stone Crypt raid.
