343 Industries, developer of all things Halo, has had a busy few weeks. On the back of last month’s Halo Infinite reveal, along with the release of Halo 3 on PC, the team has discussed what’s next for the Master Chief Collection. Chief among them is Master Chief Collection cross-play with Xbox One, which is currently slated for later this year. Mod support for PC is also coming, and it’s looking like a busy few months ahead for Halo.
In an MCC development update blog post, the team went over everything planned for the Master Chief Collection. Halo 3: ODST is the next game in the collection set to launch, followed by Halo 4 promised by the end of 2020. ODST Firefight is also coming with improved networking features, but looks set to launch separately to the campaign. 343 has set out a brief list of additional features coming this year:
- Cross-play
- Input Based Matchmaking
- Sever Region Selection
- Custom Game Browser
- Per Game Graphics Options
- Per Game Audio Options
- M&K Support for Xbox
- PCÂ Fileshare
- Double Keybinds for all games
- Viewmodel adjustments for all games
- In-game FPS Cap/Adjustments
- Steam Account Linking
These are set to drop in two waves. The first of which will contain cross-play, input based matchmaking and server region selection. The following batch of features will drop later in 2020: custom game browser, per game graphics options, and M&K support for Xbox. The team is still finalizing the rest of the features. Game-wise, Halo 3: ODST‘s pre-release test for Halo insiders begins in the first half of August. It will include a selection of campaign missions, firefight maps, and playlist options for insiders to test out.
The future of Halo: The Master Chief Collection
All of these additions, updates, and changes to the MCC will lead nicely into Halo Infinite‘s launch this year. This marks the first time a mainline Halo title has released day one on PC. Check the blog post for extra information surrounding the latest Master Chief Collection development update.
