Legends of Runeterra patch 1.3 clarifies cards and preps for next season

Prepare for the Season of Fortune.
This article is over 4 years old and may contain outdated information

While the patch notes were revealed earlier this week, the full 1.3 patch for Legends of Runeterra officially went live yesterday, June 10. You can read Riot’s full patch notes here, but we’ll break down all the important information below.

The first and most important piece of information with this patch is a change in how future patches will release. Starting with patch 1.4 in two weeks, instead of posting the patch notes article on Monday at 10:00 a.m. PT, Riot will post it on Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. PT. So the next patch notes article will not release on June 22 but on June 23. This will be the normal schedule for patch notes from 1.4 forward.

End the plunder, begin the fortune

June 23 will also mark the end of the Season of Plunder ranked season. After this, Riot will disable ranked matches for about 24 hours, then distribute reward icons for the season. Ranks will then reset as the Season of Fortune prepares to begin on June 24 at 10:00 a.m. PT. Master accounts will drop 800LP (8 divisions worth), Diamond and Platinum 750LP (7 divisions), Gold and Silver 675LP (6 divisions), and Bronze and Iron will be reset to Iron IV, the lowest ranking in Legends of Runeterra.

Patch 1.5, which will drop in a month, will also see changes to vault unlock timing. Vault unlocks will move from Tuesdays at 8:00 a.m. local time to Thursdays. This ensures that vaults will open after patches go live. That way, you won’t get cards from your vault opening that may have been banned or errata’d. The week this happens will be preceded by an extended nine-day vault week so nobody gets screwed out of two days.

Random is a little more random

The last big change is to the term “random” on certain cards and how they operate. Random has not always meant the same thing depending on the card. For example, cards like Coral Creatures specified random cards only from regions included in your deck. Others like Double Trouble had no specific definition for “random”. But after this patch, “random” will now have the across-the-board meaning of “random and from any region”. All cards with abilities labeled “random” will see updates to reflect this change.

Aside from some bug fixes and other technical issues, these are definitely the biggest changes to be aware of in this latest patch. In the meantime, Riot will continue onward with its 2020 roadmap for Legends of Runeterra. The next big update will come on June 26, which will give us the new Gauntlet mode.
