EA adds 25+ games to Steam today, EA Access joins Steam in summer

Today marks the beginning of a new initiative for Electronic Arts (EA). It has added more than 25 PC games to Steam that were previously only accessible via Origin, with more on the way.

Major releases like BioWare’s Dragon Age series, Need for Speed Heat, and Mirror’s Edge: Catalyst are just a few that can now be purchased on Steam. Indie games like Unravel, Unravel Two, Fe, and Sea of Solitude are also included. This move is the first step of a partnership that was announced between the two companies last year.

EA has also decided to celebrate the event with a sale that makes several classics absolute bargains. Pick up the original Mirror’s Edge for only $2. Furthermore, Need for Speed (2015) and Crysis 3 are less than $10 each.

EA wasn’t kidding either when it said there is more coming soon. Tomorrow on June 5, the Command and Conquer Remastered Collection will release too. The collection will include the first two games, all of their expansion packs, and source code for the modding community.

Access granted

EA’s subscription service EA Access is also coming to Steam sometime this summer. The subscription offers access to a library of EA games, discounts on new releases and in-game items, plus other benefits. The basic subscription gets most of the important perks, and for $5 per month without a contract, it’s a deal. The service has been offered by the publisher since 2014, but it was previously only available on Origin and consoles.

The fact that EA Access is coming to Steam also seems to confirm more popular games will be available soon. Star Wars Battlefront II, Battlefield V, and The Sims 4 are all included on Origin with subscription. While nothing has officially been confirmed, it’s reasonable to expect them and many more to carry over soon as well.

“We want to make it easy to play the games you love, wherever you want to play. Delivering games to the Steam community is an important step in achieving this goal,” said Mike Blank, EA SVP of Strategic Growth.

EA seems committed to increasing the accessibility of its games in the foreseeable future. PC Invasion will continue to provide updates as more games make their way to Steam.
