Minecraft Dungeons: Accessing the church and the secret runes

The entrance to Minecraft Dungeons‘ Secret Cow Level is found in the church at camp. You’ll get here by making your way past the scarecrows/training dummies and you’ll spot a raised drawbridge (seen above). You won’t be able to do anything just yet until you clear the campaign at least once on Default mode. That shouldn’t be a tall order and you can also check out our Arch-Illager boss guide if you need help.

Once you’ve beaten the Arch-Illager, make your way to the back area (past your character’s house) and you should see some jump pads:

To the left-hand side is a narrow path hidden behind some trees:

Go around until you reach the church. You’ll also be able to pull the lever to lower the drawbridge so you don’t need to go the long way around anymore:

Inside the church, you’ll find a number of portraits of Minecraft Dungeons‘ developers (hello, Easter eggs):

To the back, there’s a wall where you need to activate a total of 10 runes. The first one is already unlocked once you’ve entered the church. The rest are found in various levels:

If you click on the portrait of the dog, you could even get a clue as to the levels that have these runes. There’s an accompanying sound effect which you’ll hear when you select the level on the campaign map:

Entering the Secret Cow Level

After obtaining all the runes, it’s time for you to head back to the church and access the wall panel. You’ll see all the runes light up:

A secret room will be revealed which contains a couple of chests (these can contain unique items) and a scroll on the table. The scroll will give you access to Minecraft Dungeons‘ Secret Cow Level named “???” once you open the campaign map:

Once you’ve spawned, you’ll notice quite a number of bovine enemies called Mooshrooms:

These mobs move very slowly and are hardly a challenge if you’ve properly geared up with item enchantments and artifacts:

Because of the slow-moving mobs and high density, Minecraft Dungeons‘ Secret Cow Level is actually a good area for you to level-up in. Just grab your strongest gear (with decent crowd-clearing or AoE capabilities) and you should have a blast.

Anyway, once you reach the end, you’ll face off against a boss called the Mooshroom Monstrosity. This fight is udderly hilarious as the boss will summon more Mooshrooms to annoy you:

Once you’ve eliminated the Mooshroom Monstrosity, head towards the pier to finish the level:
