Good news, PlatinumGames fans. The Wonderful 101: Remastered has a firm release date, and it isn’t far off at all. It’s going to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, and Switch on May 19 in North America, with Europe following on May 22 and Japan getting it on June 11.
As of now, the game’s Kickstarter has amassed nearly $1.8 million in funding from almost 30,000 backers. At $1.5 million a new mission stretch goal was reached, Luka’s First Mission, a 2D action sidescroller where players control a student with no super powers. And at $1.75 million, a remixed soundtrack was unlocked. Assuming the game hits $2 million, there will be an additional mission, Luka’s Second Mission, and the last listed stretch goal is an orchestral soundtrack for $2.25 million.
In The Wonderful 101, players are tasked with controlling an entire horde of heroes as they fight baddies and save citizens who can become heroes that join your cause. Heroes can also transform into Unite Morphs, which take the form of various objects that can be used to interact with the surrounding world. In the Wii U original, players had to use the gamepad’s screen to draw a symbol in order to accomplish this. I’m curious to see how the other versions will replace or modify this aspect.
I’m looking forward to finally experiencing The Wonderful 101: Remastered for myself. I’ve been a PlatinumGames fan since its inception, but I never wanted a Wii U and so never had the opportunity to play this title. Now I just hope they do this same thing with Astral Chain, as the odds of me buying a Switch aren’t very good.
In any case, we’ll almost certainly have a review go up alongside The Wonderful 101‘s release on May 19. (Stay tuned for our PAX East preview of the game as well.) Make sure and check it out when the time comes, as we’re very much looking forward to this one.
