League of Legends fans were really spoiled at The Game Awards 2019. You would think one announcement per franchise would be enough for one night. But not for Riot Forge. First, Ruined King: A League of Legends Story was announced. Then towards the end of the awards show, Convergence: A League of Legends Story from developer Double Stallion was also revealed with a trailer of its own.

What’s the story?

While Ruined King will focus on exploring Bilgewater and the Shadow Isles, Convergence will focus specifically on one character’s story, Ekko’s. Also known as the boy who shattered time, Ekko is a bit of an inventor and he uses his own invention, the Z-Drive, to explore the branching paths of reality to craft the perfect moment. It sounds a bit like Prince of Persia: Sands of Time, and it has the perfect makings of an action platformer, which is what Convergence is said to be.

On the game’s official site, you can get more information on Ekko and also the city of Piltover and one of its undercity districts, Zaun, both of which can also be seen briefly in the Convergence trailer. The two were once united, but now they have split into distinct and contrasting societies. From that we can assume that Convergence will take place in these locations.

The streets of Zaun are rough and in a perpetual state of twilight courtesy of the smog. It’s not the prettiest to look at, but despite its rougher state, Zaun thrives. The people are vibrant and the culture is rich. Its also where Ekko is from.

Piltover, by contrast, is a prosperous, forward-thinking society where commerce booms and there’s plenty of wealth to be made. Merchant clans fund incredible endeavors with their power in the form of art, architecture, and esoteric hextech research.

Lee Thomas, creative director and writer at Double Stallion, said that the game’s story will explore the huge consequences of messing around with the time stream.

As with Ruined King, Convergence doesn’t have a release date just yet.
