Blizzard has added the PvP Honor System to WoW Classic, and Azeroth has become a blood bath. Two world bosses have also been added to the game, but they’re safe from the Horde and Alliance for now. Everyone’s too busy taking part in the global team deathmatch — whether they want to or not.
Death with honor
The PvP Honor System is a way for players to kill opposition players in the open world to climb the ranks and unlock rewards. A kill only nets you Honor if it is deemed an Honorable Kill. That basically means the opposing player needs to be within 10 levels of you. Killing the same enemy numerous times will also result in decreasing amounts of Honor received.
The diminishing returns from repeatedly killing the same target look like this:
- 1st: 100% of Honor
- 2nd: 75% of Honor
- 3rd: 50% of Honor
- 4th: 25% of Honor
- 5th (and beyond): 0% Honor
You’ll earn more Contribution Points for defeating players who are a higher rank than those who are new to the battlefield. And defeating players isn’t the only way to gain Honor. You can also get it by killing city faction leaders in Darnassus, Ironforge, Orgrimmar, Stormwind, Thunder Bluff, and the Undercity. And once Battlegrounds are available in WoW Classic, these will provide Honor too. At the end of each week, your rank will be updated based on your PvP activity relative to the other members of your faction.
You’re not free to murder anyone you please in your quest for Honor. Killing civilian NPCs will immediately cost you some of the Honor you’ve earned in previous weeks. There are 14 ranks to climb, each with their own rewards.
New world bosses in WoW Classic
Azuregos, a member of the Blue Dragonflight, can be found in Azshara, and the demon Lord Kazzak can be found in the Tainted Scar in the Blasted Lands.
Hunters will be particularly interested in taking down Azuregos. He has a chance to drop the Mature Blue Dragon Sinew, which can be used to get the best quiver in WoW Classic, the Ancient Sinew Wrapped Lamina. Completing the quest that gets you the quiver is also one of the challenge quests on your journey to getting Rhok’delar, Longbow of the Ancient Keepers, the best ranged weapon available until Blackwing Lair.
Meanwhile, Eye of Shadow is a random drop from elite demons but a guaranteed one from Lord Kazzak. The Eye of Shadow is one of the requirements along the path to getting the best Priest and Shadow Priest weapons in the game, Benediction and Anathema.
Whether you’re “For the Horde” or “For the Alliance,” it’s a brutal time to be a Classic WoW player. If you’re soloing, you better be prepared for some death runs.
