According to Activision-Blizzard’s Q3 earnings call, the upcoming Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Battle Pass system will be delayed until December, which is “slightly later than originally planned.” Activision-Blizzard describes the Battle Pass as a way to improve the player experience. There will be no loots boxes, and players will be able to take part in live seasonal events and become more engaged with the experience.

Keep pushing forward

Activision is betting strongly on the continued success of Modern Warfare. As the industry continues to slowly pull away from loot boxes as a monetization scheme, more and more games are turning to battle or season pass systems as a way to increase income. It also helps developers to focus more on creating engaging events and content. Instead of regurgitating cosmetic content tied to RNG, developers can spend more time working on gameplay.

Modern Warfare Battle Pass

Use the Battle Pass to get a better sight to go with your lonely gun.

Both Fortnite and Apex Legends are examples of shooters that have had very successful battle passes. Fortnite, in particular, succeeds at creating interesting seasons that draw players in to witness crazy events such as the map imploding. But Activision’s president, Robert Kostich, described Modern Warfare‘s launch as “just scratching the surface of what it can do,” so it’s safe to say that Activision intends for Modern Warfare to be just as successful.

Here is how Modern Warfare‘s December Battle Pass will work:

  • All content that has an impact on the game, such as weapons and attachments, can be unlocked by playing the game.
  • The Battle Pass will be able to earn COD points by playing the game.
  • It will feature a variety of cosmetic content with no impact on the game.
  • Players will see all content they can earn, so you don’t have to rely on RNG to get the gear.
  • The Battle Pass will launch alongside season events.
  • There will be a Free Stream and a Premium Stream of content.

Modern Warfare just received a free mode and maps today. We dug CoD: Modern Warfare quite a bit, giving it a 9 out of 10.
