For those concerned that Everspace 2 wouldn’t reach its lofty Kickstarter goal, you apparently don’t know how far into the sky it can fly.
Rockfish Games confirmed today that the game has been fully funded on the crowdfunding site. It managed to get €503,478 during its fundraising period, which means the game is on par for its 2021 release. A Steam Early Access version will arrive beforehand, sometime in September 2020.
Everspace 2 is a go
Michael Schade, CEO and co-founder of Rockfish Games, thanked the fans for their support in reaching this goal. “We are deeply grateful to all our supporters and couldn’t be more happy about having reached our funding goal at pretty much the last minute,” he said. It’s true that it hit funding just a few hours before the end of the campaign. But, fortunately, all’s well that ends well. Schade proceeded to add this:
Thanks to our successful campaign we can now develop our full vision of Everspace 2 together with our community as a completely independent studio.
This is also a clear signal towards other indies that despite the current circumstances, success is still possible thanks to a convincing prototype as well as open and authentic communication with your fans.
The full update regarding funding is available on the Kickstarter page. As far as how well the game is coming together, there’s some news on that as well. We recently posted a preview about the sequel and found it to be rather impressive thus far. “If you’ve got any interest in a resurgence for something that looks and plays a lot like Freelancer or might help scratch an itch for a more frantic, action-focused open-world space shooter, you should have a gander at Everspace 2,” we said.
